Want easy access to your place?
SCIL’s Access Coordinator administers a wheelchair ramp and home modification program for homeowners and selected renters meeting Federal Poverty guidelines in the City of Springfield. This program is funded by a grant through the city of Springfield. A second ramp and home modification program provides similar services in Christian, Logan, Menard, Montgomery and Sangamon counties funded by the Illinois Department of Rehabilitation Services (DRS) through the Illinois Network of Centers of Independent Living (INCIL).
Low-income residents can request assistance to make these modifications to their homes at no cost.
Both these programs are very popular. Eligible individuals with a disability will need to complete a brief application by phone and will be added to what is currently a multi-year waiting list. Call (217) 523-2587 ext. 209 or email tmoore@scil.org for more information.
PLEASE NOTE: SCIL continues to experience unprecedented demand for ramps and/or home modifications. We respond as quickly as possible to inquiries in the order received and continue to accept applications by phone, which usually takes about 10-15 minutes.
We are working hard to accelerate the process, but it may take several years to provide this assistance pending the availability of funding.
